WatchDogs for in-home petsitting and dog walking accommodations

Frequently Barked Questions

Does WatchDogs WatchCats?
We definitely take care of cats, along with a wide range of other animals. Although we do take care of other animals, cats and dogs are our specialty. On a typical cat visit, we will feed your cat and give plenty of what we like to call "Love Time" to your cat.

Does WatchDogs stay at my home or do they take pets to a kennel type facility?
WatchDogs provides service within your home. Sometimes the kennel environment can be stressful on a pet and WatchDogs was founded on the belief that animals do best in their own, safe, familiar environments while their owners are away.

What services does WatchDogs Provide?
We provide many types of services, such as:

Dog Walking:
While people are away at work or those with busy home-life schedules, we can come to your home and walk your dog on a daily basis. We have clients that currently use us Monday through Friday or just two or three days a week when they know they might be home late.

Overnight Services:
While away on vacation, many people feel safer having someone stay in their home with their pet. This provides a friend during the lonely nights for your pet and gives your house the look that it is being occupied while you are away. Safety for your pet and your home!
On a typical overnight stay, we arrive at your home between 8-9 pm and leave by 7-8 am. Overnight stays also include 1-2 check in visits on your pet during the day. Usually the time of these visits are based on your pet's usual feeding and walking schedule.

Daily Visits:
Some pets may not need an overnight friend. In this case, daily visits can be arranged. The numbers of these visits are based on the number of times you feel that your pet needs to be visited per day (and scheduling availability).

Do you take care of medical patients? Administer Shots? Pills?
Taking care of medical patients is a regular duty for WatchDogs. Nikko Poulos, founder and co-owner of WatchDogs, has two years experience at the Animal Emergency and Critical Care Center in Northbrook* and is currently working as a technician one day a week at Glencoe Animal Hospital*. This has given Nikko the experience and knowledge to take care of many types of medical patients. Pet Companions are also trained in order to provide these services as well.
* these hospitals have no affiliation with WatchDogs and its services.

Is basic home care included within the price?

-bringing in your mail/newspaper

-taking out your garbage/recycling
-watering plants
-sorry, we do not do windows

How long will my dog go on a walk?
Usually walk times are 25-30 minutes. Longer or shorter walks can be arranged.

Is WatchDogs insured?
YES, WatchDogs is insured.

How does a consultation work?
First, we will find a time to meet in your home because your home is also your pet's home. We like for you and your pet to meet us in your pet's comfortable environment. During a consultation we will go over questions about your pet. We like to know many things about your pet, such as: medical history, personality, and feeding times. We also welcome information from you that you feel is necessary for us to know while we care for your pet. As always, the person you meet will be your Pet Companion, excluding sickness and vacation, of course. The consultation usually takes about 1/2 hour.

Will you do any type of training/obedience work with my pet?
We are not professional trainers, but will always be happy to reinforce any old training or obedience commands.

Do you watch exotic pets? E.g. rabbits, lizard, etc.
Our background skills are in cats and dogs mainly, but we will care for exotic animals with detailed instructions given.
