WatchDogs for in-home petsitting and dog walking accommodations

Nikko's Pets

Doc McDee came to me at only 2 months old. As you can see in her baby pictures she was so cute. I was working a weekend shift at the Emergency Animal Hospital in Northbrook when I got a call from someone that said that their 2 month old kitten was unconscious.

We later found out that the young couple had kicked her against a wall and knocked her unconscious and also bruised her lungs. Dr. Judith McClure talked the clients into letting her go to a better home. I wanted to take her home so bad at the time, but her medical bills were too high for a struggling college student to pay for.

The other person that wanted her was named Dr Dee Ann Dugger, but instead of taking her home because she could afford the bills, she paid the bill and gave her to me. That is where she gets her name from…..Doc McDee…from the two doctors that made it possible for me to take her home.

Now once we got home, the first couple of weeks were hell. I had almost wished I had made a different choice. Because of her abused beginning she would not stop biting and scratching. I told all of the other technicians at the hospital that I might have to return her. They all insisted that I get her a friend, someone else besides me and my hands to beat up on.

It was the greatest suggestion of all. That is where Bebito (it means baby boy in Spanish) comes in. I immediately went to Glencoe Animal Hospital where they graciously fill their space with kittens that need homes every Spring. As I looked through all the cages I couldn't find one that fit Doc's personality. Finally I came to Bebito's cage. He was the only other 3 month old kitten in the place. All the others were too young to match Doc's age.

I brought home this sweetheart that night. Doc and he fought all night underneath my futon. Needless to say, I was sleepy in the morning, but happy to find them getting along by morning. Since this day Doc hardly bites or scratches at all (please notice the word "hardly")

Clara Sue...
Clara Sue is also another rescued pet. She was found as a puppy wandering the streets malnourished. She is such a sweet dog. Her favorite thing to do is lick your face. And our favorite bedtime thing to do is wrestle, and despite what most people may think, she loves to use her paws to fight, rather than her teeth. She wants you to know that not all pit bulls are mean. Most pit bulls are brought up to fight in underground matches and when they lose they are thrown away on the streets. These dogs know nothing better than what they have been taught and therefore resort to biting and fighting, but this doesn't make them bad, it makes the people that raised them bad.

So remember to not believe everything you hear on the news…..they don't dive into the facts behind pit bulls. These dogs actually like to play dress up.

~Nikko's New Arrival~

This is Duncan Hines, Nikko's soon to be new puppy. We finally were able to travel up to Wisconsin and see him for the first time since he was born on Easter Day, 2003. He is four weeks old in these pictures.

Here, Duncan helps shine his new friend's Mick Dean's head.

After only 15 minutes, the little guy decides that this whole introduction thing is just too tiring.

Here, Nikko is telling Duncan what he wants for Father's Day.
